Microsoft 2 Factor Authentication Setup

Two factor authentication or 2FA is a method to secure services, in this example we will explain how to secure Office 365 by receiving a code to your cell phone. The district will be taking this step to secure our USD469.net email.

  1. Once 2 Factor Authentication is enabled for your account, you will you will need to login again. You will login with the same username and password. You will then receive the message More information required.

2. You will be asked what method Microsoft should contact you.

  • Choose Authentication phone

  • Choose United States.

  • Enter your cell phone number

  • Choose the method of text message or Call me

  • Click Next

3. You will receive a verification code via phone call or text message. Enter that 6 digit code in the space provided. Click Verify.

4. Finally, some apps on iPads or Phones may not have the option to login to the web. This could be Outlook or Office applications on your iPad. It will require an application password. Save this password in a secure location for future use. Click Done.

You will be required to login to your Microsoft applications and websites using 2 factor authentication method you selected. Anytime you login to a new computer or application, you will be required to login with a username, password and then provide the code sent to your phone.
